Quote Time

What is Quote Time in Trading?

Quote time is the exact moment when a price is provided for a financial instrument, such as a currency pair, index, or commodity. Since market prices change very quickly, the quote time shows when that price was valid.

In other words, the quote time is the timestamp attached to a trading quote, confirming the precise time the price was offered in the market. This helps traders know the accuracy of the quote they are looking at.

Quote Time usually spans over a full 24-hour period, but depending on symbols, it can vary

For instance, the Quote time for EURUSD is from 00:00:00 to 24:00:00, this means the pair EURUSD’s price will be flowing 24/7.

Example of Quote Time

Suppose you see EURUSD = 1.10201 with a quote time of 10:15:30 AM.

  • This means that at exactly 10:15:30 AM, one Euro was worth 1.10201 Dollars.
  • A few seconds later, the price may change, so the time attached to the quote shows when that price applied.

This makes it easier to avoid confusion about which price you are looking at.

Why Quote Time is Important

  • Accuracy: Prices in the market move quickly, so knowing the exact time quote helps confirm the value you are trading at.
  • Transparency: In quote trading, attaching a time ensures traders know when the price was active.
  • Day Trading: For fast-moving styles like day trading quote analysis, timing is essential because trades may last only minutes or seconds.

Quote Time vs Trade Time

Quote Time and Trade Time represent two different points in the trading process.

Quote Time refers to the exact moment when a price is shown or offered for a financial instrument. It tells traders when the quoted price was valid.

Trade Time refers to the exact moment when a trade is executed. It shows when the order was filled in the market based on the available price at that time.

The difference between Quote Time and Trade Time can lead to small price variations, known as slippage. Understanding both helps traders check how accurately their orders are executed.
