Challenge Phase
What is the Challenge Phase in Prop Trading?
The challenge phase is the first step many prop firms use to test a trader’s skills before giving them access to funded accounts. Instead of risking your own money, you prove your ability by following the rules and reaching a profit target set by the firm.
At FundedNext, this step is called the FundedNext Challenge Phase. It’s designed to check if you can trade responsibly, manage risk, and stay consistent. Once you pass, you move forward to either a verification stage (in a 2-phase challenge) or directly to a funded account (in a 1-phase funded challenge).
How does the Challenge Phase work?
- 2-Phase Challenge: In this model, you first complete Phase 1 Challenge with a set profit target. If successful, you move to Phase 2, where you prove consistency under similar or slightly easier rules. After passing both, you qualify for a funded account.
- 1-Phase Challenge: Some firms, including FundedNext, also offer a 1 Phase Challenge option. Here, you only need to pass one stage instead of two, which makes the process faster. This is often referred to as the one phase funded challenge.
Challenge Phase Example
Imagine you join a FundedNext Challenge Phase account with a profit target of 10% of your initial balance. If you successfully reach this profit without breaking any rules or breaching the account, you pass Phase 1:
- In a 2-phase challenge, you would then need to complete Phase 2 to fully qualify for the funded account.
- In a 1-phase challenge, passing the first stage means you can directly start trading a funded account.
